Description
Mahle *COATED* H-Series Rod Bearings, with .001 Extra Oil Clearance
The largest benefit of coated bearings is the prevention of damage at cold starts, and anytime that oil starvation is apparent. Cold starting your truck is extremely hard on the engine. The oil has drained out of the block back into the pan. The cold oil is thicker and needs circulate throughout the engine. The coated film lubricant is a barrier between the bearing and the journal. Benefits are less friction and longer bearing and journal life. The coating is designed to retain oil rather than repel it.
This coating process was developed for and is used in race engines, and applied to street and daily-use cars to help yield more durable engines.
Mahle H-Series rod bearings were developed primarily for use in NASCAR type racing but are suitable for all types of competition engines. These H-Series bearings have a medium level of eccentricity, high crush factor, and have hardened steel backs and thin overlays. They also have enlarged chamfers for greater crankshaft fillet clearance and are made without flash plating for better seating.
Bearings with .001 in. extra clearance are available for standard size shafts and with or without dowel holes. H-Series bearings are recommended for use with crankshafts that have oversize fillets and where engines run in the medium to high rpm range. They should also be used if contact patterns obtained with Mahle P-Series bearings are too narrow. Contact patterns should ideally cover 2/3 to 3/4 of the bearing surface. These bearings are made without flash plating for better seating.
